Everlane was founded in 2010 by Michael Preysman with the goal of creating high-quality clothing with full transparency around pricing and production. Built as a direct-to-consumer brand, it cut out traditional retail markups and focused on ethical factories and honest pricing—an approach known as “radical transparency.” The company quickly grew by offering minimalist, everyday essentials while reshaping how consumers think about fashion.

Everlane’s creative leadership has been fluid compared to traditional fashion houses, but the most recent confirmed Creative Director is Mathilde Mader, who took on the role around 2022 and was responsible for shaping the brand’s overall aesthetic, campaigns, and product direction. More recently, however, there are indications that the company has been restructuring its creative leadership, suggesting that the Creative Director role may currently be evolving, transitioning, or not filled in a traditional sense. Mader has also been associated with a broader Chief Creative Officer position, reflecting a wider scope of influence over the brand. Unlike luxury brands with clearly defined creative heads, Everlane operates with a more flexible, direct-to-consumer structure where creative direction is often shared across design, marketing, and brand teams, with leadership, including CEO Alfred Chang, also contributing to the overall brand vision.
